WWF Canada and Earth Hour – Copenhagen Edition

by Trevor McPherson on Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Negotiations continue in Copenhagen, Denmark for a climate deal at the U.N. Conference of the Parties (COP) Climate Change Conference.  Today we received the following message from WWF Canada, on behalf of its president, Gerald Butts, who delivered a compelling presentation with Galen G. Weston of Loblaw Companies Limited at the 6th Ontario Economic Summit.  We thought we would share it and also encourage you to post any Copenhagen-related comments at OES Talks.  [Opinions expressed in the following piece and related links are those of World Wildlife Fund Canada].  Original message follows…

Hello all,

Today is Day 10 of negotiations at the UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen.  Negotiations to-date have been up and down – for details see this a clip from The Agenda on Monday featuring Gerry. Today, this news release went out (available on our web-site, as is our ever-informative blog).

Today reports say that talks have pitted developing nations against developed so some inspiration would be good right about now.  We are hoping that inspiration will be a mini- Earth Hour event happening tonight in Copenhagen.  The million citizens of the city will turn off their lights for one hour at 7 pm to represent all the people around the world who want a new global deal out of this conference.

The panda crew will be broadcasting live online at http://cop15.panda.org from 6:30 to 7:30 CET – or 12:30 EST.  Gerald has the honour of hosting the broadcast and will be live on air from 6:30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. CET reporting on the events that are happening in the Copenhagen City Hall Square as part of Earth Hour Hopenhagen.

The images should be quite powerful so please tune in if you have a moment and check it out! If you have any questions please let Keith or I know.

Best!!!

Tara
