WEF Global Competitiveness Rankings Released
by Trevor McPherson on Thursday, September 9th, 2010
Our friends at the Institute for Competitiveness and Prosperity act as the Canadian Partner to the World Economic Forum and today the WEF’s Global Competitiveness Rankings were released. Canada is basically in a holding pattern – dropping from 9th to 10th this year.
While it’s certainly a good story that Canada remains in the top ten, the real challenge for Canada and indeed Ontario by extension, is our capacity to innovate. This is precisely the reason why the OES has been focused on the innovation issue this year. We’ve already conducted a number of “Connect to Innovate” sessions across the province in partnership with the Council of Ontario Universities. Our next event will take place in Windsor, Ontario on September 22, 2010. In addition, this November’s Ontario Economic Summit will feature a panel of senior exectives that will offer insight into what we in Ontario need to do in raising the bar on innovation. Paul Lucas, President and CEO of GlaxoSmithKline (Canada) and Co-chair of a National Roundtable on Innovation will lead us off with an enlightening keynote.
More about this year’s WEF rankings may be found in the Institute’s press release.
