The 4th Annual Ontario Economic Summit has produced a strong commitment from leaders in business, labour, academia, government and the non-profit sector, to work together as stewards of Ontario’s economy.

Opening with a keynote address by William Jefferson Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States, the summit went on to explore collective responsibility in terms of the province’s infrastructure, competitiveness of Ontario communities, international stewardship in the areas of global health and environmental sustainability and foreign acquisitions of Canadian businesses.

Keynote addresses were provided by Premier Dalton McGuinty, Finance Minister Dwight Duncan, Leader of the Ontario PC Party John Tory, and leaders in business and academia. In addition, 21 Ontario cabinet ministers engaged in thoughtful roundtable discussions with delegates who made it clear that issues currently affecting Ontario’s competitiveness must be urgently addressed.

In addition to the government to do its part, Len Crispino, President & CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC), challenged the leaders from business, labour, academia and the non-profit sector, to join in the effort, “just imagine the impact if each of us takes one specific action to address one of these key issues discussed here this week.”

The 2007 Ontario Economic Summit was widely reported throughout Canada, with additional coverage in Buffalo, New York.
